Editorial and Review Policy

Last updated 21 October 2026

This editorial policy explains how the CarO team researches, writes, reviews and updates the guides, schedules and tools on this website, so you can judge how far to rely on them.

Our principles

  • Practical and plain. Short answers first, then detail, in plain English.
  • Evidence first. Facts must come from a trusted source, and we link it.
  • Honest about CarO. CarO is our app. When we compare apps we say so, describe CarO's limits, and never accept payment for placement.
  • No made-up numbers. We don't publish invented statistics, user counts, ratings or testimonials.

How we source information

We rely on government and established bodies, manufacturers and recognised experts, mainly:

  • NHTSA, FuelEconomy.gov, the US DOE Alternative Fuels Data Center, EPA and the EIA
  • AAA, Consumer Reports, the AA and the Car Care Council
  • IRS and HMRC for mileage and tax rates; GOV.UK for MOT and Highway Code rules
  • Manufacturer maintenance schedules and owner's manuals

Every article lists its sources with the date we accessed them. App comparisons use each app's own store listing and show the date checked.

Who writes and reviews

Articles are written by Muneeb Rana (founder, Xtra App Studios). We cite primary sources and update pages when facts change.

Updates and corrections

We review tax-rate pages when the IRS or HMRC changes rates (at least each January, April and July), app comparisons every six months, and other guides at least yearly. Spotted an error? Contact us; we fix confirmed errors promptly and update the "last updated" date.
