Quick answer: A car service reminder alerts you before maintenance is due so you don't miss an oil change, inspection or renewal. This free tool creates a calendar event (.ics) with an alert, which you can add to Google Calendar, Apple Calendar or Outlook. For reminders per car with history and costs, the CarO app keeps them in one place.

TL;DR

  • Pick the service, the due date and when to be alerted.
  • Download the .ics file or add it straight to Google Calendar.
  • Repeat yearly or every few months for recurring items.

Use this car service reminder tool to put your next oil change, inspection, MOT, tire rotation or insurance renewal into your calendar in seconds. It works without an account: the reminder is created in your browser and saved to your own calendar.

How to use the car service reminder

  1. Choose the service: oil change, tire rotation, inspection or MOT, registration, insurance renewal, brake fluid, or custom.
  2. Enter the car's name (for example 'Blue Civic').
  3. Pick the due date. If you only know the due mileage, estimate the date with your average monthly miles.
  4. Choose when to be alerted (1 day, 1 week or 2 weeks before) and whether it repeats.
  5. Click Download .ics or Add to Google Calendar.

How the car service reminder works

The tool builds a standard iCalendar (RFC 5545) event with a VALARM alert and optional RRULE repeat. Mileage-based dates are estimated as:

days_until_due = (due_odometer - current_odometer) / avg_daily_miles

Nothing is stored on our servers.

Worked example

Your oil change is due at 52,100 miles; you're at 49,300 and drive about 30 miles a day. (52,100 − 49,300) ÷ 30 ≈ 93 days, so the tool suggests a date about three months away with a one-week alert.

Reminders worth setting

Oil changes (oil change interval calculator); tire rotations; yearly inspection or MOT; registration and insurance renewals; brake fluid every 2-3 years; a monthly tire-pressure check (tire pressure guide); and seasonal checks before winter (seasonal car maintenance).

Calendar reminders vs an app

A calendar alert is great for one-off dates. If you have more than one car, or want the reminder linked to the service history and cost, an app is easier. CarO's oil change reminder and service reminders sit next to each car's records, and the maintenance schedule tool shows what to remind yourself about.

Keep track after the service

When the reminder fires and the work is done, log it in your vehicle maintenance log, then set the next one. See how to keep track of car maintenance.
